Compline

Thursdays in Lent only. Fifteen minutes, said, in near darkness, and then everyone goes home without talking.

Compline is the last office of the day, and in Lent we say it on Thursday evenings by candlelight.

It lasts fifteen minutes. There is no sermon, no notices and no coffee — the custom is that everyone leaves in silence afterwards, which sounds forbidding and is in fact the best part.

This service does not run outside Lent, and the website knows that: it appears in the list in February and disappears again at Easter without anyone changing anything.
