Choral Evensong

Forty-five minutes of sung psalms and canticles as the light goes. You are not required to do anything at all.

Evensong is the service this theme is named for, and the easiest one to come to if you are not sure whether you believe anything.

The choir sings almost all of it. The congregation joins in one hymn and says the creed; otherwise you may simply sit. It is forty-five minutes, it is the same shape every week, and it has been the same shape for a very long time.

In winter the quire is lit by candles because the lighting circuit in that part of the building is older than anyone still alive.
